A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words

Travel Photography

Ever seen a scene on a TV programme or a photograph in a glossy magazine that just stops you in your tracks?

For me, the inspiration can be unlocked by seeing a single photograph. So many people have told me travel is not for them but has later been converted by a single experience. So now's the time to unlock your inner spirit of adventure and chase that dream. Hopefully, my photographic galleries and Blogs will do just that?

As the saying goes,

"A picture speaks a thousand words"

Thanks for looking

Diary Spot

February 2022

At last, travel seems to be returning to some sort of normality, and decided to take the plunge and head to Tanzania which had been on the cards before the pandemic. Expectations were high despite having been on safari game drives in three other African countries previously. Was I disappointed, absolutely not! This trip is up there in my top 5, the wildlife viewing was exceptional and highly recommended.

Our safari company Goshen was running at 20% of the pre Pandemic levels but at least shows long haul travel is slowing heading in the right direction. Here's hoping everyone feels safe to travel soon.

May 2022

The last of the Covid re-arranged holidays saw a trip to the southern coastline of Turkey (or should I say Türkiye ) and the Antalya area, a region steeped in history and stunning scenery. This may have been a more relaxing trip compared to my usual full-on explorations, but still found plenty to see and do before the hot midday sun kicked in. For me, the ancient cities are just as good as most of those found in mainland Italy while the tourist board pin up the location of Pamukkale was worth a long drive.

November 2022

The last major trip of the year was to the world's second-biggest island and one of the most amazing ecosystems, as in Madagascar. Although the star players were always going to the lemurs, the supporting cast of frogs, geckos, chameleons, snakes, and birds made every day, a day of surprises. Some of the Lemur species were ridiculously tame, while others stayed hidden in the tree canopy although with patience good views were often possible.  What did surprise me is how the forest has been slashed and burned to leave fragments of forest-like Islands in the landscape. I really hope the country of Madagascar can cling to what is left...

April 2023

Having been lucky enough to have photographed Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs at close quarters, my attention turned to the Bengal Tigers of India. Of course, there is so much more to the Tiger Parks with Pench, Khana, and Bandhavgarh visited over a two-week period. As ever with nature, nothing can be taken for granted but by safari ride number three we had a great siting. Eventually, we would see 20 individuals spread over 23 sightings. Some are fleeting, others as a close encounter.  Well worth the 04:30 am alarm calls. Although for the local guides, seeing an Indian Pitta in the fading light caused some excitement.

Alas I still have lot more places to visit. Hope to add Oceania in the years ahead!

I've lost count of how many times people have described Africa as a place that "gets under your skin". It's hard to describe why, but few come back without the hunger to go back for more.

Europe - The Land of History

Where North America is a land of vast open plains, miles of tundra, and canyons of epic proportions. South America has a backbone of the mighty Andes and still holds onto its vast rain forests and complex ecosystems.

A trip to Asia can be a cultural and sensory overload with the bustling markets and atmospheric temples, not forgetting the majesty of the Himalayan skyline.

The sheer remoteness and sense of a land untouched by the human hand make this a unique destination.

Nowhere else can you follow the power struggle of tribes, empires, and royal families stretching over so many countries as the borders were drawn and redrawn over the last two millennia.

Amercica's - Nature's Wonders

As an avid runner for over a decade with the completion of 18 marathons in 12 different countries and a holder of an Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star Finisher medal, the chance to mix travel with a passion has turned out to be a real bonus.
